Mary's Diary

romance and war in 1941

He'd like to have Lucile and everybody else write to him. (Especially Lucile I guess.)

Fri., Jan. 3rd

Dear Diary,

I wore my new cardigan to school and everyone told how pretty it was. Alice came down at noon and was in the cafeteria with us. Chris Flynn said she was cute and looked like me.

I came home and did dishes, and am copying some poems. Mrs. Baldwin called up today and told Mama Wayne's address (she'd apparently just got it) and said he'd like to have Lucile and everybody else write to him. (Especially Lucile I guess.) Wait till I see her.

Jay and Jean just left. They weren't here long but ___________. Jay offered to lend me his thesis to look over. It will help. Oh he is awfully good to me. It's nice to have him for a cousin, but he may not even be back this summer. He's got to have some work to correspond to his course and may have to take it there. It left an awful empty and final feeling to see him drive away.

Lonesomely,
Mary
