Mary's Diary

romance and war in 1941

Gerald Weinnens was at Grange and asked me to come home with him.

Dear Diary,

Of all the crazy endings to a screwy week. Gerald Weinnens was at Grange and asked me to come home with him. I didn’t. It was funny though. I had to work on the food comm. because Alice couldn’t go on account of her knee.

Later I had to go in and get the dishes. I went up to their table and said, “If you boys just can’t take your dishes out, I suppose I can.” I started to stack them and he put his arm around me and said, “you will just for me won’t you, Mary.” If it had been Paul or some of the others I wouldn’t have thought about it. Then he asked if I were going home with him. I said, “You, no.” Just as if I never had given it a thought. He asked why and I told him that he couldn’t bother to go our way. I left soon after with Voorhees. What a week! Me.
