Mary's Diary

romance and war in 1941

Here’s the big news of the day. Linford asked me to go with him.

Fri. Feb. 28, 1941

Dear Diary,

Lorraine & I fixed up the most of our program. Oh boy! Some people aren’t going to like it!

Say, the Sr.s are planning a Box Social, the last Thurs. in Mar. I took charge of Sr. meeting today.

It’s for high school but each member can invite someone. I guess we’ll have to go in couples.

Here’s the big news of the day. Linford asked me to go with him. Did I accept? NO! It was almost as funny as the night Mitch walked in! And I didn’t even laugh!

Alice & I went to church tonight. Rev. Lowe was there from Johnson City. He’s good!

Alice went to put on her dress, the fuschia one, and couldn’t fasten it. Then she discovered she had it on over my plaid skirt and she couldn’t get it off. I laughed until I cried and my sides ached. Lucile wasn’t at church. Me.
